4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐Genre: Short Stories, Magical Fantasy
My Review: First let me start by saying this has been a busy month for me where it’s been hard to be able to focus on a lot of reading. So recieving a copy of this book couldn’t have come at a better time for me. This is a perfect book that you can just power through or read a story a day like I did.
Each story is unique and different from Christmas elves to child stealing demons. There are 12 short stories in total. I love how Lantgen put together these short stories with great balance the stories transition between dark and light magical fantasy. Each time one story ends you’ll be looking forward to reading the next one.
Some stories made me laugh, others had me gripped from start to finish. A couple stories stuck with me and kept me thinking the next day about them like the Snake Eyes. I’d say that was my story my favorite by Lantgen in this book.
With pumpkin spice latte season upon us there is a great story titled Cinnamon Ultra Pumkinator your sure to love. You’ll definitely be looking at your barista differently after you order your next PSL after reading that story.
Blurb: The short stories in Saints and Curses explore fantasy and magic from a wide variety of perspectives and settings. The stories range in tone from lighthearted modern fantasy in stories like Elven Carols, to the dark and ominous stories like Erlkonig, and in time from the late antiquity to the modern day. Magic, like all forms of power and like human nature, has two sides, light and dark. Whether we find (or become) a saint or a curse depends on our circumstances. And, of course, our choices.
